What’s my ideal output?
1 oz from both breasts for every hour interval from the last feed/pump.
Ex 1:
Last feed: 12 midnight
Pump: 3 am
Output should be: 3 oz
Ex 2.
Last pump: 12 noon
Pump 2 am
Output should be: 2 oz
This should be easily achieved by exclusively breastfeeding moms. If mixed feeding, pump every time you give baby formula. If relactating, pump every 2 hours even if no milk comes out. Do not wait until your breasts become heavy before pumping.
First things first: Check if your flange fits correctly. Sides of the nipple tips should not rub the tunnel and not more than 3mm of areola should enter when pumping. In case the flange fit seems wrong, you can exchange this fore free as long as unused/unwashed, just pay for the shipping both ways. See replacement procedure here: http://babymama.ph/exchange/
The wrong flange size will lead to painful pumping and decreased output.
If you have been using massagers or soft shields with a previous pump, consider using massagers with your new pump.
Spectra 3/300/350 and Unimom Forte
- 1Massage breasts before and during pumping.
- 2Hand express each breast 5 mins afterwards (watch Marmet Technique in Google).
- 3Pump for at least 15 minutes. 15-30 minutes is the normal range.
- 4Some moms need to get used to the pump before being able to letdown with the pump. Just pump every day and this should increase in 2 weeks.
