Babymama Nadia Chkarat

I am a mom of an 8-month old baby boy, now strong and healthy! I’m very happy that we’re still breastfeeding now.

It was tough especially at the beginning, because my baby had to stay at the NICU for a few weeks. My baby had breastmilk jaundice so it was tough establishing a supply in the first few weeks when it was most critical. Establishing the milk supply through that and maintaining it even while working is the biggest challenge.

I work as a manager in a call center. I work odd hours but the work is tough because it usually requires me to be at my station when on-shift, driving operations.

I had low milk supply so I did every trick on the book to build a stash. We practiced with everyone at home 2 weeks before getting back to work, to make sure we managed the milk supply well.

But I am glad that my officemates are supportive of my breast pumping. When I first got back, a pump session would take me an hour! No one made a fuss about it.

I guess the most memorable is the first time my baby and I slept through the night with no fuss, with him latched on. We were finally synced!

I’m very lucky that everyone at home, even my husband, has been so understanding through this journey.
