I am a Dad – Randy Gonzales

I am a first hand witness to my wife’s challenging journey, from the time that she was still single and she has to work on her reproductive health issues to her difficult and high-risk pregnancy, up to her current situation (amazing post partum period).

She has always been struggling in keeping herself healthy that’s why when she was still pregnant, she was determined to breastfeed our first born exclusively. She believes that breastmilk has life-long benefits not just to our child’s health but also to hers. Since she was put into bed rest when she was pregnant, from six weeks until she gave birth, she read a lot about breastfeeding to make herself ready for it.

Fast forward to her postpartum days, she was in deep pain when she went home after giving birth due to her CS wound and rashes she got from her binder, aside from nipple and breast pains. I’ve seen her so many times crying while praying aloud but still nursing our days-old son.

I was moved with her determination to keep on with breastfeeding in spite of terrible pain. From there, I came to realize how deep a mother’s love is to her child that I came to appreciate her more, my own mother and my wife’s mother. To show her my appreciation, I began doing household chores, helping to burp our son, waking up whenever she breastfeeds to give her something to eat and drink, reminding her to take her vitamins, preparing her malunggay supplements and taking care of our son whenever she feels so tired and sleepy already.

I know the things that I do are considered minimal comparing to her sacrifices but I want her to know that I am always beside her – cheering for her and ready to encourage her whenever she feels so down and discouraged, praying for her that the Lord will give her more strength, and loving her with all that I am, just as she loves our son and me.

To my wife, Cee Caragan-Gonzales, my son’s hero and the wind beneath my wings, I hope we can win this contest as one of my ways to make you happy (so you can buy your breastfeeding essentials).

Right image was taken around 3am during 6th day postpartum, when my wife needed to take a break from her breastfeeding struggles and painful CS wound episode. I had to step in to keep our son entertained.
